This story follows Simi, a twelve-year old from Northern India. Simi's life is like any child's: hockey competitions, school exams, and tiffs with her class nemesis. But when a single rock crashes carrying a note crashes through the window during their Id celebration, that life shatters.

Her parents' interfaith marriage has become the target of violent vigilantes. Now, faced with rising threats, her family must leave. Her father escapes to America, but when the petition to be reunited is denied, Simi and her mother must attempt a perilous crossing through the desert. Soon separated from her mother, she must summon all her courage and resourcefulness in order to survive and be reunited with her family.

This is a wonderful read, showcasing not just the struggles of such a journey, and the courage of those who undertake it, but the kindness found in even the worst situations. It's a nail-biting, heartfelt tale that grips you from start to finish. Come celebrate it with us!
